Third Sunday of Advent

This week we are going to experience Joy.  Well, I hope we experience it every week and every day but Joy is our focus.  In fact, it’s Fierce Joy.

I learned something new as I was working on this week’s reflections.  This third Sunday of Advent is called “Gaudete Sunday” in the Roman Catholic Church.  I had never heard this, or if I had it’s been a while, so I had to look up what Gaudete means.

It’s a latin word that means Rejoice and is the title of a old sacred hymn that begins, “Rejoice in the Lord, always.”

In the Catholic Church, this week is also sometimes referred to as Rose Sunday because of they wore rose colored vestments.  In the church I grew up in, and in many protestant churches, we marked this with the Pink Candle of Joy, which is the third candle, lit on the third Sunday.

Isaiah 61 calls us to Rejoice and share the Good News!

So this week, I invite you to look for opportunities to rejoice, to experience joy and to share it.  Look for ways to bring joy to others.  This season is a perfect excuse (though we shouldn’t ever need one) to bring joy to those around us.

Until next time… ♥️
