The Season of Lent is Almost Here

Hello Friends,

I’ve spent the last few weeks trying to figure out what I wanted to focus on for Lent this year.  Did I want to write some reflections to share?  If so, what would the focus be?

– Follow the UMC Discipleship series

 – Follow Basehor UMC and use Adam Hamilton’s “Luke” study?

 – Or maybe go on my own and focus on – The Teaching of Jesus in Luke.

None of these were really speaking to me.  In fact sometimes as I read through the scripture, I just got disillusioned again… with the Bible, the church, with religion…

I struggled in my beliefs again.  Not that I lost my belief, just feeling  unsure of what my beliefs are anymore.

  1. I know I believe in God- a higher power, the divine
  2. I believe in Jesus and his teachings
  3. I believe our main purpose in life is to LOVE – EVERYONE.  To help each other and encourage one another.

All that, not that there’s much to it, seems so very basic, so simplistic, almost childlike, immature even.

I found myself feeling less than, then frustrated and unsure.  Lost and alone.

Then I stumbled upon a book entitled, “Freeing Jesus” by Diana Butler Bass and in the first few paragraphs, I felt I had found my people, the place I belong.  Suddenly, I knew I needed too share it with others.  Should I use it as a basis for my reflections?  Should I see if others might enjoy reading it with me?  Form a book group, maybe? In person or Zoom?  A Facebook Group?

The more I read the more I wanted to share it with others, the more I needed others!

But I’m a recluse these days.  A total homebody.  I barely want to leave the house to go buy groceries anymore!

And what if I reach out and no-one wants to join me?

As I thought on all of this, little blurbs and ideas began to come to me for my reflections, even a theme or title…

Finding Jesus again, through Lent.

So here we are.  I’d like to invite you to join me on this journey to find Jesus again.  Looking for him in unexpected places, FINDING him in unexpected places.

I’ll be sharing reflections (not sure yet if it’s everyday or just a couple of times a week)  and if anyone wants to join me in reading the the book, “Freeing Jesus” by Diana Butler Bass, let me know!  If you are local, we could find a time to meet up in my living room or at a coffee shop or we can just share over email, or even FaceTime or Zoom. Just gather informally talking about it as friends.

If you’d like to subscribe to these let me know ow and I’ll put the link up.

I’m looking forward to Finding Jesus with you this Lent.

Until next time,
♥️ Sherri
