Matthew 11

Friends, Today, our reflection is on Matthew 11, the whole chapter.  I feel like that is too much to share here but I really want to encourage you to read it in full.  It really won’t take you long.  You can read the translation I’m using from the Open English Bible website.  You’ll just have to go to the table of contents and click on Matthew and then scroll to chapter 11.  Or you can read it in whatever translation you have.  They all work! Go read it and then come back and join me here…

After reading this chapter, I closed my eyes and asked “What does this mean?”  I then picked up my pen and wrote the question down on a piece of scrap paper.  After a moment of quiet, I just started writing whatever came to mind as a form of free writing and that is what follows here.

We are a fickle people, humans. It’s a no-win situation.  John came not eating or drinking and they claimed he had a demon and Jesus came doing the opposite and they complained about that too.

We humans often refuse to see what is right in front of our faces.

We do what’s easy – accepting those it’s easy to accept, welcoming those it’s easy to welcome – which really isn’t all that much because well, it’s easy.

We feel entitled to miracles because we believe we are better but refuse to BE miracles to those WE don’t believe deserve it.

Who are we to decide who deserves what? Who are we to decide who is welcomed? Who are we to decide who deserves peace, love, food, shelter, forgiveness?  It’s not ours to decide.  It’s not ours period.  It’s everyone’s!  It is for anyone, for everyone.

It is only ours to love, to be love, to share love.  It is for everyone.  Everyone is deserving of all good things.  And it is our job to go and BE good, to BE love, to BE welcoming of ALL regardless of, well, everything.

May we go about our days being the miracles the world needs today, and everyday, where we are and wherever we can.

Until next time… ♥️
