Matthew 20:25-28
“Jesus, however, called them to him, and said: The rulers of the gentiles lord it over them as you know, and their high officials oppress them. Among you it will not be so. No, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to take the first place among you must be your slave; just as the Child of Humanity came, not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
I feel like this scripture is some of the most important for us to hear and learn from.
To be great, we must be servants. Jesus came to serve. The prince of peace, the “king of the Jews”, the lord of lords came not to be served, but to serve. He washed feet, he served food, he served so many people. He embodied servant leadership, it’s what he taught, it’s what he is wanting us to learn here in these verses.
We all know this, I’m not telling any of you anything new, but as we look at the state of our society, is this what we see? Do we see leaders in our government embodying this? Do we see our community leaders doing this? Do we see our church leaders doing this?
Of course the answer is some do, a few do. Unfortunately, there are many who don’t. Too many. Whether you are a Christian or not, this is a good way of leading, of living. We need more of it in our churches, in our communities, in our government, in the world. We need more of it in our families and among friends!
So, today, I encourage you to take a few minutes to think about how you can better embody this for your family, your friends, and your communities. I will be too. Who can we serve today? How can we serve?
Until next time…♥️
