Matthew 20:29-34
“Master,” they replied, “we want our eyes to be opened.” So Jesus, moved with compassion, touched their eyes, and immediately they recovered their sight, and followed him.”
~ Matthew: 20-33-34
“We want our eyes to be opened.” What a powerful phrase. Immediately several hymns come to mind.
“Open my eyes that I may see glimpses of truth thou hast for me…”
“Open the eyes of my heart, lord, open the eyes of my heart…”
“Open our eyes, Lord, we want to see Jesus…”
Of course, in this scripture Jesus is speaking to and healing two blind men.
I wonder, were they physically blind, or spiritually blind? Were they asking to see more than just with their eyes? Were they asking that the eyes of their hearts be opened?
Regardless, I think this is a question we should be willing to ask every single day, multiple times a day!
May our eyes be open to the truth. May our eyes be open with compassion. May our eyes be open to see who we need to serve. May our eyes be open to the beauty of creation, to the beauty and sanctity of every human being we encounter. May our eyes be open to the injustices around us that we might work to right them. May our eyes be open to see Jesus, to see God, to see the Divine in everyone we meet.
Open our eyes, Lord, both physically and spiritually.
Until next time…♥️
