Well, friends, I just got busy with family and totally forgot Sunday and even today has been delayed! Sorry about that. It’s been a crazy week in my household with lots family and fun. I hope you have had a joy filled holiday! But let’s finish up Matthew for the new year. We are on the final chapter. In a TV series that is ending, we’d say they were working to close up any loose ends.
Matthew 28. Click the link and go read it. It’s short and full of good news. I’ll wait.
Let’s see what Good News we read… Well, the obvious, Jesus has been raised from the dead! The angel came to the Marys to tell them about Jesus and sent them out as the first apostles. Then Jesus appears them, and only them first, and again sends them out to tell the others. This is important good news that shouldn’t be overlooked. This is news that says women are important too, that they have authority as well! That women can and should lead! Do you ever wonder why it’s only the women who go to the tomb that third morning? I do. Why weren’t the men there to see the stone rolled away?
The soldiers were there, they saw what happened and reported it to the chief priests and were paid off to tell a different story as to what happened. They were paid to lie and say that Jesus’s followers had come and stole his body.
So, the religious leaders of the time paid people to lie…
Anyway, back to the Marys. As I mentioned before, on their way to tell the other disciples to go to Galilee, Jesus met them! He greeted them and sent them to go tell the others. So the Mary’s were sent to the others twice, once by the angel and once by Jesus.
They all went to Galilee and met Jesus there where he then commissioned them go out and make disciples. “Teaching them to lay to heart all the commands that he has given.” He reminds them and US that he is always with us until the close of the age.
So as we begin this New Year, let us remember the Good News of Jesus’ teachings on love, compassion, faith, and even the caution he shares about who we follow.
Happy New Year Friends!
Until next time…♥️
