Mark 14:10-26
It’s a beautiful morning here where I am. The sun is just coming up, the birds are singing their lovely tune. I can hear an owl hooting in the distance.
One of my favorite things is sit out on our deck in the early morning and just listen to the world wake up around me. When the weather is like this, it’s my worship. I get to not only listen to the birdsong but watch them in the early morning sky flit from one to tree or bush to another. It’s such a peaceful way to start the day.
You’re probably asking yourself, “What does this have to do with the gospel of Mark?” Well, not a lot, really. Our scripture today is about the Last Supper, the beginning of the end before the new beginning.
As I am sitting out here with nature thinking about our scripture for today, I can’t help but wonder if at this point, nature began to slow down, to quiet.
When I’m in nature, I feel like I’m so much closer to God. Surrounding myself with Creation – the birdsong, the breeze, the brilliant morning and evening sky – fills me with peace and calm. I wonder then, did nature slow down or quiet down? Or did it continue on as a balm for Jesus?
I don’t know, it’s just my random thoughts the Lenten morning. I feel like the these verses speak for themselves. There’s not much for me to add. I think I’ll just sit here with the words of Jesus and let the birdsong be my hymn.
May you find time to sit out in nature today, in your own yard, on the porch or go lay in the grass! Go for a walk and just let nature surround you.
Until next time…♥️
