Last night, we had a date night in… When the kids were little, we didn’t have the money to go out AND pay a babysitter, so we would go to the library to check out a movie for the kids, we’d set up TV trays in one of their rooms, with a TV, and cook their favorite foods for them and they’d hang out in there.
Then DH and I would cook a fancy meal, set a beautiful table and enjoy dinner together alone-ish. The kids often hollered they needed something but for the most part it was always a nice evening. So…
Yesterday, we celebrated 31 years of marriage in similar fashion (just no kids at home). We cooked a wonderfully delicious meal and enjoyed a lovely evening together.
At one point, DH did come in and say, calmly but loudly, “The grill is on fire!” I looked out to see black smoke billowing from the grill and flames engulfing the entire grill… So we quickly took the steaks off, which had a lovely char already, and put them under the broiler to finish cooking and they were wonderful. Really they were, no taste of smoke, just pure deliciousness…

Then we had dessert, which was probably too much, but was pretty tasty (Thanks Dillions!) followed by some AppleTV and then reading.
It was a lovely way to celebrate a special day.
31 years… there were days when we weren’t sure we’d make it here. We have overcome so much… there was plenty of sabotage by those who didn’t want us together, there were hard times through deployments and redeployments, PTSD, moves, and more but we made it. We love hard, we fight hard, now we just need to get better at playing hard too! For us, marriage hasn’t always been a piece of cake, but we said from the beginning, that we were in it for the long haul. We haven’t reached the long haul yet, we’re just getting started!
I love you, DH! Thanks for hanging in there with me! We’ve got at least 31 more years in us and I bet they just get better!
Until next time ♥️ …
Happy Anniversary to you two love birds.
