Time, once again, for community

Well, I’ve finished my book and started the second one in the series again. If you remember, I listened to this series on audible but felt like I missed a lot and want to really take it all in, so I’m reading hard copies and have been busy underlining. These really are great books.

Anyway, I wanted to share one more passage. It’s really several all spliced together. The book takes place during covid, well towards the end of the covid lock downs in England. Morghan is speaking to the community and I feel like so much of this holds true for those of us in the United States right now.

“But these times have also brought us together in ways that hove only strengthened us. We have come together in kindness, compassion, and a determination to support each other. We have taken to heart the knowledge that we do not have to go through these things alone, and we have been there for each other… You are a shining example of community. And acts such as those you have been performing over the last months only multiply the more you do them. Others turn to you, pick up your example, and person by person, community by community, the world becomes the place it is meant to be…” “But we will need courage to get through these times. To live what we know, to walk the ancient path, to stand up for those for whom we must be the voice. To lead the world back again into that sacred balance. To lead by example, by inexhaustible integrity, by compassion, kindness, community.”

Morghan in “The Gathering” by Katherine Genet

This stands true in so much of life but I feel it to be especially pertinent today in the United States. Now more than ever, I feel the need to build community, to be there for each other, to help one another, to speak up and out, especially for those whose voices are being silenced or who just are unable to speak up for themselves.

Honestly, rereading this right now, brings to memory the sermons I shared via video to my congregations during covid. I think about revisiting them, maybe even returning to that kind of thing but more as reflections to share. Maybe… we will see.

I know I need to work on my community again. I need to get out and be a beacon to those who are searching for someone to befriend, to help, to share…

Until next time… ♥️
