Later, a woman named Hawayo Takata, who was originally from Hawaii, helped bring Reiki to the West. Thanks to these teachers, Reiki is now practiced all over the world.

How Does Reiki Work?

Reiki is based on the idea that energy flows through all living things. When this energy is low or blocked, we may feel stressed, fatigued, or even unwell. Reiki helps clear these energy pathways, restoring balance and harmony.

During a Reiki session, the practitioner gently places their hands either on or just above different areas of the body, allowing healing energy to flow where it’s needed. Many people experience deep relaxation, warmth, tingling sensations, or even emotional release during a session. Others simply feel peaceful and refreshed.
