Painting with a Twist

Have you ever gone to one of those paint and sip places? We went our first time this weekend. We’ve done them here at home before with the family, but it’s definitely not the same, fun for sure but not the same.

Anyway, DH and I had a lovely date night. We made a whole night of it. We went to dinner first and it was so good. Well, mine was, DH thought his was good until it made him sick a few hours lately.

Anyway, then we went to Painting with a Twist. We had chosen a Halloweeny painting to do. It was fun. Hard to do it on such a time crunch, but still fun! I think we did pretty well. Well, DH did great! But he is an artist anyway. He did his on a board and it was really made the colors richer.

We really just had a great weekend. We (me finally) are getting the hang of the empty nest and are going to doing and having such a great time. We are becoming closer than ever. I almost feel like we those kids who got married again! At some point they kind of wandered away. Part of it was the army and his always being gone, and part of it was having kids and putting them first, and part of it was finances. We didn’t have any! Lol Really and any money we did have we focused on the kids, or food, housing and clothing. Now we feel a little freer. The kids are now on their own now, not really needing much from us. It’s really different but really good.

If you are no where near an empty nest yet, don’t lose your relationship when growing your family. We didn’t lose ours completely but we definitely kept it more on a back burner that we just refreshened every now and again. Make it more of a priority. I feel like that message is more out there now. Maybe it was out there back then too and I just didn’t listen. I don’t know but we are back at it now and I’m so glad!

My mom always told me that after the kids leave, everything gets better. lol Okay, that’s not exactly what she said, but she was totally right! We feel more in love than ever! We love just being us. We love being with the kids too and miss them terribly but we are doing pretty good on our own too.
