How I’m doing my part today, Jan 30, 2026

This morning, I attended a protest with a friend. It was freezing cold but I just kept thinking about the people in Minnesota and how they have been braving the cold to exercise their first amendment rights, and I could do the same, our windchill wasn’t nearly as bad as theirs. It felt good to stand up and have our voices heard.

So that’s my big thing today. I need to do it more often, and I need better gloves and one more pair of socks.

All week, I’ve been crocheting red hats of resistance. I watched a video the other day that was talking about how Norwegians wore red hats with tassels as an act of Resistance against Nazi occupation in the 1940’s. Two years later they were outlawed by the Nazis. I have been feeling so helpless, so I’ve decided to make a bunch of matching red hats for my friends and family. They aren’t the best but they are mine. I’ve crocheted 20 so far for family and friends. I’ve mailed some to Texas, Georgia, New York, and Washington and I’ve passed out several around here too.

I’m still working on my education about Immigration. I’m reading the book, “The Good Immigrant.” It is a collection of essays from diverse writers exploring their experiences as immigrants or children of immigrants in the United States, addressing themes of identity, belonging, and racism in a politically charged climate. (if you purchase from this link I do receive a small commission.)

So, this is what I’m doing today. I’ll keep reading, and speaking out. I did lose a subscriber this week because of my last reflection. I hate that, but I can’t sugar coat things anymore, I can’t be silent. I want a better country for my grandchildren and their children and I won’t stand up for them, who will?

Until next time…♥️
