John 15:26-27; 16:12-13
15:26 “When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who comes from the Father, he will testify on my behalf.
15:27 You also are to testify because you have been with me from the beginning.
16:12 “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.
16:13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own, but will speak whatever he hears, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.
Acts 2:1-4
2:1 When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place.
2:2 And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting.
2:3 Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them.
2:4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability.
The Spirit of God is one of love, compassion and justice.
As I thought about this weekly devotion (sorry I missed last week), I decided I would share my short and sweet sermon from Sunday with you. Here it is…
Jesus’ message of love is so important every day and yet lately, I feel it’s more important than ever. As we argue about masks, about opening things up and getting out again, love should be our guiding force.
As we deal with neighbors of differing opinions love should be our filter.
As we deal with the murder of another black man by the hands of one who is supposed to protect us, love should be our religion.
Love is everything, and it should guide us in everything we say, think and do, because Love is at the Heart of the Matter.
God of Love,
Forgive us when we remain silent, forgive us when we turn a blind eye. Give us courage to stand up for what is right. Give us courage to keep our eyes open. Give us courage to speak out against injustice. Give us courage to love. Amen.
