Sherri’s Reading Nook

So friends, what are you reading? Do you have a favorite genre or do you just read whatever you can get your hands on? Or maybe you don’t really enjoy reading and prefer movies or tv. That’s okay maybe that will be another topic.

When I first started reading non-stop, I was in the 7th grade and I had the best reading teacher. She really cultivated the love of reading in me. I’ve moved in and out of it over the years but I mostly love it. Back then I was in Lois Duncan books. She wrote about mystical things… supernatural things… ouija boards and astral projection… I remember one book called “Stranger with my Face”… I loved it. I read them all but that one stuck with me.

I eventually moved on to romance… the Sweet Valley High series and the Sweet Dreams books (think Harlequin for teens in the 80’s). I read all I could get my hands on! I grew into Victoria Holt, then Danielle Steele. I’ve read a few Stephen King, Stephanie Laurens, Nora Roberts.

I am currently reading, or listening to, on audible, a series by Katherine Genet called, The Wilde Grove Series. I’m on the final book of the first series… I believe there are two. I’m honestly not even sure how I found them! They were a hard listen at first as I didn’t really like the reader’s voice but it has grown on me and now in the 4th and final book, I can’t quit listening! Somehow this one has gotten into my head. I think about it all the time. It has … magic… and otherworldliness. It has the Fae and druids. It has the wheel of the year festivities with dancing and praying. It has daily prayers and breath work. I find it incredibly interesting and inspiring. I especially connect with one character, Winsom, the new village vicar, a female vicar, around my age, I believe, who deepens her faith and spiritual practice as she befriends some of the Wilde Grove people. Of course, she begins to question it all at first. She is afraid of what she is learning and what is happening to her but she begins to let go and let it take her deeper into her spiritual practices as she grows and learns and deepens her faith. It’s beautiful. She’s NOT the main character but I’ve connected with her.

Did I mention that it all takes place during Covid lockdowns in England? They have been such an interesting read for me, one that makes me pause and think… about community, my place in community, and ironically, I think it just might be leading me back into my faith in new ways.

I’ll share a link below to the first book.

Until next time ♥️…

This is the first book of the series. If you’d like to check it out, here is a link. If you purchase it off my link I earn a little bit of a commission but at no extra cost to you.
