A few years ago, a friend gave me a hard time about listening to books. She asked the question, are you really reading a book if you are listening to someone else read it to you? I guess she has a point, technically I’m not physically reading but I’d rather listen than not read at all.
I’ve been reading this week a lot and I have to say, I’m missing listening.
I LOVE reading and have for a long time. I do it in spurts because, you know, life gets busy sometimes.
AND that right there is why I enjoy listening to books. I can put in my AirPods and do the dishes or vacuum or sew or work a puzzle or mop and the list goes on and on, and still ‘read’ or listen to a book.
When I read, I let things slide. My house work suffers. I get to where I can’t put my book down, so I don’t!
This week as I’ve been trying to make myself stay on top of the dishes and so on, I’ve wished I had my book on audible instead of on my kindle so that I could keep “reading” while getting things done.
I started out listening to books on Audible as I drove to visit the kids and I’d get so into the book that I wouldn’t want to stop for any reason! And sometimes it would take forever to finish if I wasn’t able to finish it on the drive, I’d listen on the way to the store which was usually only once a week or so…
Then I got my AirPods and I got to read while walking or cooking or cleaning and I LOVED that!
All that being said, sometimes as I’m listening though, I wish I had a hardcopy so that I could underline or make a note. So… it does have it’s drawbacks too.
Do you listen to books or read. Are you a diehard one or the other or do you mix it up? I often have more than one book going at a time. A hard copy book, a Kindle book and an audible book. It works for me. Sort of…
Currently, I’m finishing a series on my Kindle that I started a couple of years ago, the Carly Moore Series by Denise Grover Swank. I’m finally on the last book and I can’t put it down! Well, I can when I have to but it’s hard.
My hardcopy book is a book on Celtic Mysticism and I don’t have an audible currently going but I’m looking at several!
What are you reading? Is it hard copy, soft copy, or audible?
Until Next time heart ♥️ …
I’m all about the ebook

I do love my ebooks. Don’t have to find shelf space for them and it’s easier to carry around sometimes. I love that I can check them from the library too!

Definitely easier to read in bed! What is your current read? Or the last thing you read?

Oooh….ok. Just finished Tale of two cities for book club. Other book club A Wimans Story by Annie Ernaux, Joy life lessons from a Tuscan villa by debt Travis, the book of Charlie by David von Drehle, build the life you want by Arthur C Brooks, The bookbinder by pip Williams and write for your life by Anna quindlen. I’m a mood reader so I always have a bunch in rotation depending on what I need at the moment. I always do light fiction before sleep though…

I just don’t like dickens. But the Arthur Clark one is amazing if you like personal growth books.

I like listening to Audible. Like you said, you can listen while you work, and that’s so important to me. 🤍🌻🌺

I’m currently listening to “The Deeds of the Disturber” by Elizabeth Peters. It’s part of the Amelia Peabody series and I am enjoying it so much.
