What I’m reading

Well, I’m still reading “Mary Magdalene Revealed” by Meggan Watterson.  I should be done by now.  I read the first half in a day but then life happened and well, I have about a quarter of it left.  It’s really good and I’m enjoying it but I’m mostly reading at bed time so I only get a chapter in at a time.  I should probably go to bed earlier!  But honestly, once I get in a reclining position, I only have about 20 to 30 minutes in me tops before my eyes quit focusing and everything goes blurry.

Anyway!  I’m still reading that but it lead to my purchasing “A New New Testament” and I’m also reading that.  I know, it sounds odd, and yes, it is exactly what it says it is.  Though most of it isn’t new.   It’s the New Testament we are used to reading, if you are prone to reading it, plus some of the books that were left out and just found in “recent” years.

Such as The Gospel of Thomas, The Gospel of Mary , The Gospel of Truth, The Thunder: Perfect Mind, The Acts of Paul and Thecla and others to include prayers, and Odes to Solomon.

I’m really excited to read them all including those I’ve already read!

The books are grouped a little differently, so if you read it cover to cover you’d be reading in a little bit different order and each book has an introduction before it.

The introduction to Matthew had me so excited to read it again.  And so, that’s also what I’m currently reading, or rereading, The Gospel of Matthew.

I’ll be honest with you, since leaving my position as a lay pastor, I’ve struggled with reading my bible.  I’ve struggled with church in general.  Oh, I’m still a believer, I am still a follower of Jesus, but I’ve also struggled.  I tried to keep up with it by writing my devotions, and later my reflections but eventually, I just couldn’t anymore.

I think I needed to distance myself a bit from that part of my spirituality and focus on other parts.  Learning to go deeper into the inner knowing, into the heart.  I needed to get closer to nature and creation.  I needed to find new ways of prayer and ritual.  I needed to seek out the sacred in the world around me, to witness it and be apart of it.

So that’s where I’ve been for the past few years. Seeking, learning, working, listening, reaching, growing, expanding … until it all came back to here.  I knew it would.  I knew there was more.  I knew I had to find it on my own.   I knew it was within and without me.  I knew where it was leading, though being excited to read the bible again was surprise. Lol

So, that’s what I’m reading, “Mary Magdalene Revealed” and The Gospel of Matthew in “A New New Testament.” With new eyes to receive old words.

I’ll leave you with a part of the opening, A Prayer of Thanksgiving.

“And if there is a sweet and simple teaching, it gifts us mind, word, and knowledge: mind, that we may understand you; word, that we may interpret you; knowledge, that we may know you.  We rejoice and are enlightened by your knowledge…”

Until next time… ♥️
