I haven’t posted in a while about my crocheting. I have a very dear friend with cancer and I wanted to do something special for her so I crocheted her this lovely blanket.
I have to say, I think it is one of my favorites. It’s a big rectangular granny square. I love the yarn too. It was one of those yarn cakes from Hobby Lobby. Well, it was more than just one ‘cake’ or skein but it as just one pattern. This one was called Kiwi Croissant. I loved working with it. It was soft and not too heavy. I always sit underneath my projects as I work them and sometimes it just gets so heavy! But this one didn’t. It was perfect.
I love to crochet. I like that it keeps my hands busy. I like that it keeps me off my phone. I like that it keeps my brain functioning all while doing something nice for someone else.
I set a goal back in January to crochet 52 hats (one a week) to give to the homeless next winter and I’ve fallen behind, partly because I need some new yarn but it can be so darn expensive and partly because DH wants the lights out when we watch tv. He recently bought me one of those knitting lamps that goes around your neck. We were hoping it would be nice and local and not cause as much glare on the tv. We were wrong… it puts these two lovely very bright, very big balls of light on the screen and you can’t see anything on the tv! Oh well, live and learn.
Art Therapy
I’m really needing to get back to my artsy stuff. I’ve been missing it and I think about it but I always feel like there is something else more important to do… but I need to make this a priority too. It’s good for my health, both physical and mental. There’s just something about creating something that makes everything right again. It relieves stress, eases worry, it makes everything else just kind of fall away and in that moment of creating, it’s just you and your creation.
It’s time to get back to it. I need to create more often. I need to make time for it, crocheting, painting, drawing, poetry… I need to set aside a day or a part of one day a week that is just for creating. Just a fun day of creating something just to be creating, just for the love of it.
Do you enjoy creating? What do you create? Do you draw, paint, sew, crochet, knit? I would love to see what you create! Share what you love to create in the comments below. I don’t even know if it’s possible but if you are able share a photo! Or email me a photo at sherri at simply-sherri dot com. Maybe I’ll do a lovely post of all of our creations! Giving you all credit of course. So, yeah! Share your creations with me!
Now, I’m off to find my sketch pad and do a little zen tangling… I’ll share more about that later.
