I tried something a new today. I have a lot I need to get done but I’m always way too easily distracted lately. So, today, I set a timer. I have 30 minutes to do… whatever or 10 minutes depending on the activity. I’ve made myself push through and just work until the timer went off. And you know what? It worked!!
It’s hard for me to concentrate sometimes. I’m so easily distracted. I wouldn’t let myself be this morning though. I didn’t even open up a web browser this morning until the 30 minutes was up. I told myself this has to be done first. I didn’t completely finish at the end of the 30 minutes but I had a great start and was able to come back for another 30 minutes and finish up.
I think the time limit was quite helpful in keeping me focused and on target and it also made me step away for a break and that’s good too, because I often sit way too long. Too long for my body but also too long for my mind and creativity. I get stifled, stuck and the break helped put me back on track.
During one break, I ate breakfast and read a book. Yes, this one was for pure enjoyment. It is such a great book and written with humor and joy. I had moments of laughter and even tears as I heard, really heard, what he was saying. In fact, at one point I felt he wrote it just for me. I think I’m going to start setting a timer each day for reading time too. Maybe short bursts. Anyway, it is a wonderful book and I highly recommend it! It’s called “Love Does” by Bob Goff. (Yep, that’s an affiliate link again. Still paying for DD’s career.) I’m probably pretty late joining the club on this one but it is soo worth the read. It speaks to me in so many areas of my life.
Anyway, I need more focus and time management in my life and this little handy time thing just might do the trick. Now, I’m off to the chiropractor for some acupuncture. That’s another story, I’ll share soon.
