The next day was all about Graduation day for my DH.
OH! Let me know back up just a bit… Just before dinner the night before, I received texts from DDIL (Dear Daughter In Love) that their flight had been delayed almost 2 hours! They were already getting in really late so now we are worrying about flights again… But never fear, they made it… to the hotel after 2am but they made it.
Then it all became about Graduation. I mean that’s really why we were here. DH was too excited. He didn’t get to attend the graduation ceremony for his Bachelor’s so this was extra special for him.
We arrived extra early so we could easily find parking and good seating. We got to sit right behind him!
It was just amazing and fun! The president’s speech was great! I told DH that a couple of times he seemed a little over the top but that this was an over the top kind of day so it was perfect! You could tell he loves what he does and he genuinely cares about the students and the University.
As DH came around to head up towards the stage DS reached out for high five. This is a big deal. We’ve struggled to reach DS some in the last few years and we’ve felt so distanced from him but he was so proud of his Dad. Brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it.
This is probably my favorite picture of the day! Well, one of them. I know it made DH’s day! And then before we knew it they were calling his name and he was walking across the stage.
It was a great day! They had moments for our military, and first responders. They had moments for the families. DH was so sweet, when they asked for applause for the family support, DH turned and looked at me and then stood. He even blew me a kiss! I love that guy.
When it was all over, we went to the bookstore and bought a few mementos and then headed out for lunch! We were all starving!! We ended up at a little pizza joint called Jimmz. It was LITTLE but oh my goodness! The pizza was delicious! Alas… I forgot to take a photo for you. I know… you’re disappointed, and I’m so sorry about that… but never fear! There are other food photos to come!
When we got back to the room the kids had gotten DH a little something for graduation/Father’s Day.
He was so surprised and LOVES it! What a truly neat gift idea! It’s the Norwich emblem in metal works. It will be hung in a prominent place for sure!
Then we went for a little fun on the town with the kids.
Then for dinner and drinks.
This was the best day of the trip. I couldn’t be more proud of my guy. He worked for this and deserved this day. He never thought he was smart enough but I always knew! I mean, did he really think I’d marry someone who wasn’t smart?? Geesh!
